Subject: bale wrapping

SE Wisconsin
We have a New Idea round baler that makes 4' tall and 5' wide bales. We normally stack the barn as full as we can. Then we start putting them outside. Some years we have tarped them, some years we just leave them out to the elements.

Obviously, when we dont tarp them, the outside layer is pretty much trash and the cattle pick through it. Tarps tend to tear or blow away in a wind storm. They are also a pain to cover/uncover the bales in snow etc.

I was looking at a bale wrapper to at least wrap the outside of the bales before we stack them outside. Maybe this would be a good alternative to tarps and it would preserve the hay quality better for our cattle.

I am not looking to do "baleage" just want to keep our dry hay cleaner if we have to store it outside. Do you think buying a 3 point or trailer type bale wrapper would be worth it?

Thanks guys

Tim
