I currently use a penta 600cubic ft twin screw. Feeding cattle from 500 t to finish. This week switched from a corn silage based ration to a ground hay based ration. There is a glut of hay around so hay is dirt cheap. Ration is tub ground hay, whole corn , DDDgs and a balancer. I am having problems getting a consistent mix. I have been loading ground hay adding a few pounds of liquid molasses, distillers, then whole corn. Load mixer at an idle, then let mix at full rpm for 15 minutes. When unloading I notice the last 300 pounds is all ground hay . I just put new kicker plates on beginning of week. What should I try , different load sequence, longer mix time..I have never fed a ration without silage so this is new territory for me.
