| GangGreen - 3/4/2017 11:53 You aren't wrong, and having the cumulative data would be nice, but my position is this: With consistent genetics, environment, and feeding program you can W/F consistently to 280 in 141 days, and market on a regular schedule until they are gone. If you can account for variables like group size, over time a "normal" marketing schedule that allows you to hit target weights is fairly easy to determine, and adjust based upon the weight of the first loads out the door.
I agree with you and that is pretty much what we do but it can still be difficult to execute. Those groups that grow better than normal can get away from you fast and with packing plants that are always running at 110 % of capacity it isn't easy to get another load in quickly.
When you have to turn loads in a week or more in advance you're behind the eight ball when you find out that those hogs are 10-15 lbs heavier than you were expecting and you can't deliver an extra load until 10 days from now.
