I use 7014 1/8" for everything and all that I weld is rusty iron. 6011/6013 is too flashy for me and leaves a terrible looking weld but is a good penetrator. I've built a lot of things out of rusty iron. LOL reminds me I actually won a district arc welding competition back in FFA. High school shop teacher told me a wire welder is just a hot glue gun.
Only thing i'll argue is 7014 in all positions seems overhead I have poor to fair luck with a 7014 I use a 6011 or 7018 for those. Got a friend who welds for pipeline they use a lot of 8018 but preheat everything!
