NC South Dakota
There is no crying from the calves when they are fully weaned. Its really amazing how quiet the yard is.
Cows still beller some though.
Still, its totally different.
Calves go right to eating hay.
The Quiet wean I use on my big calves, 500+, and for the runts/lates I use a Brighter Orange paddle that is much more difficult to remove.
If you do this you need to have 2 types on hand.
I will only loose about 2 percent. But having the whole heard more calm helps calm the ones that loose the paddles. I find most of the paddles around(or in) my mirafount waterer......

But really your worried about $2-3 of insurance on what will be a $1000 dollar animal? And you can reuse them!
Spent alot more money on dumb stuff in the past.
Only downside is having to run them threw twice, that and some sore fingers from doing a bunch.

I am on my 2nd year doing this, have had cows for 4 years now.
So I am no expert, but I can see a big difference in my small heard.

These work better for the runts in my experience.
