Tape and dope, a guy uses a lot of tape on those big fittings but that has seemed to work for me, used to just do it on the connections where two different materials mated but do it on all now. Use Tru-Blu here but it shouldn't matter, anything good quality. I think I will try something that stays softer after the trublu can is out but have had good luck with it. A plumber explained it to me once that the tape was the sealant and the dope the lubricant. Only bad thing is that with the tape in there as soon as that fitting backs up you might as well start over rather than chance it, there is a little more leeway if just using a liquid sealant.
