I like Rectorseal 21for liquid fert and Rectorseal 7 for NH3. True Blue will work quite well. Right,wrong or otherwise I always apply a light coating of teflon tape and then apply pipe dope over top of that. Any connection over 2"gets pipe dope applied to both male and female threads of fitting.
