I use them with ok success. Oxygen barrier pastic and one layer of black/white underneath. Use only gravel bags now but need more weight on top to keep consistent pressure on plastic. We have enough warm spells in get by in the winter but they can be tough to deal with.

EDIT:
Bottom pic is the day it was covered.
Top was 2 days later, middle bags were 2' off the silage because od the gas build up. Was chopped pretty wet and was warm Temps, let the gas out for a couple of days but did get so we heat damage on top.
