| I use them as a way to quickly cover the pile as I have to cover the pile myself sometime when I can't seem to find help. I use tires on the perimeter and a few scattered in between instead of the gravel bags. The gravel bags should be lined up end to end to seal the perimeter, not like you have in the picture. Gravel bags can fall off the pile and break and friend said rats chewed holes in his gravel bags once. The biggest drawback I have with them is snow and the resulting ice. The mesh reinforces the ice, making it like reinforced concrete. Before winter sets in Wisconsin, I remove the secure cover and use tires across the whole surface on piles I'll be feeding off in the winter. The edges after 2 years have started to curl up on me and that in effect shrinks the coverage area, so get them plenty long to allow for area shrink. The O2 barrier films are also great for preserving feed value. | |
