Subject: RE: Louisiana Plantation tour/visit/stay ????

Franklinton, LA
Most of the LA plantation homes are elevated due to MS River flooding. They did not have levees when they were built. They also face the river because that was the main transportation when they were built. Forty to fifty years ago most of the farm land around these homes was sold for chemical plants. You may want to visit Laura Plantation on LA 18 at Vacherie. This is not a typical plantation home and it has a lot of history. It was owned by free people of color and yes they owned slaves!
