Calves that small have a steep learning curve. I would suggest starting with a group of 400 to 550# calves and trying to finish those. Should have better health, less labor, and more predictable performance.

For reference we figure they will take 300 days from 500# to finish and eat 21 lbs of dry matter per head per day. We feed a TMR but here are our as fed planning numbers to take a calf from 500# to finish.

2,880# HMC
2,475# dry corn
2,250# corn silage
1,170# DDGS
225# co-product balancer
