northeastern Ohio | Sounds like the wire is undersized or there is a poor connection.
A 700 watt microwave will draw 6 amps. A 1000 watt will draw 9 amps. 1200 watt can draw 11 amps.
If you have a 1200 watt microwave on a 15 amp circut (14 gauge wire), then you have pretty much maxed out that line when the microwave is running and you will see a drop in voltage. If your microwave is that big, you should be on a 20 amp breaker with 12 gauge wire.
If you have a small microwave (700 watt), and you are seeing this voltage drop, I would check each connection on that circuit for a loose wire or bad connection. | |
