Agree with all of Rob's comments.

We just completed picking up a few large open piles as well. When piling grain without a cover you are hoping mother nature will be kind. Not the case the last 2 years. Last year...9 inches of rain. This year .... VOM and the temp of the grain at time of piling was a concern. Best when the grain temp is colder. We had an above av. temp for Nov in our area. We received 24 inches of snow this year. We have a healthy ethanol market in our area (if you booked the unload time (locked in basis) to pickup and allowed us the ability to deliver DEC/JAN. Most if not all (Ethanol plants) are on allotments and have good coverage out for 30 to 90 days out.

We were also caught off guard with the large crop size but more so from the lower quality ground... yields.  Normal rain fall for our area is 30 to 34 inches. This past year we were 10 to13 inches above normal mainly in the late July August and September time frame.

Assume just average fertility and.....this is just an observation .... seems like the new seed tec...might be able to deal with lower quality fertility and a bigger/better response to irrigation/water. This MAYBE something to keep an eye on.

Happy marketing!
