Your soil likes to tie up the applied phosphorus. Definitely band it if you can. The P1 is the available and P2 is like your storage tank, it's there but not available to use at this time. You have an ample amount there, it's just tied up. If you divide P1 by P2, that will give you the percentage that will be available if you add more. That is why the band is much better, less dirt to tie it up. An example, on KQ3, divide 24 by 116 and you get about 21%. If you broadcast the phosphorus you will only get about 21% of applied lbs available to the crop. I hope this makes sense.
Once in a while I hear of the calculation you mentioned of dividing P1 by P2 to calculate available from a broadcast app. Can you point me to the source of this concept? |
