Colby, Kansas | At 6-9 ppm Bray1, I would be very confident in saying you would see a positive response to banding. Some labs, when recommendations are made for such low soil test levels its assumed that at least some portion of the recommendation will be banded.
As another poster mentioned the Bray 2 was created to handle rock-phosphate applications in the eastern corn-belt. Although its abused for lots of other "purposes". The Bray 2 numbers will almost always be higher due to the stronger acid used in the extraction process, however, just because you use a stronger extractant doesn't mean its plant available.
Does higher Bray2 values mean there is a faster rate of phos being mineralized into an available form, perhaps, but with a 6 or 9ppm soil test level that conversion isn't happening fast enough to prevent yield loss due to P deficiency.
