For the time being, I doubt they are interested in grain production. Why grow it when grain farmers are willing to grow it below cost?

My guess is that they will keep their fingers out of it until we run out of liquidity and/or equity.


Ben , us hog guys thought the same yrs. ago that why would packers own hogs when they can buy them cheaper , fwiw Ontario still has a strong independent pork production system and especially shareholders of Contestoga (3 p plant owned by pork producers) have been doing quite well as there hogs are "settled" on what plant recieves for product(simple,short answer)....... happy new yrs. , mkts. and profitability is always a challenge.....record land prices/rents set again this fall in Ontario ,Stratford area land surpassing $25,000 acre in latest sales on group of farms by 3 different buyers
