In your area they should be ready to market at 4 or 5 years old. However, after year 2 they will need pruning 3 or 4 times each summer. Several different herbicides can be used to control grass under the trees and then you only need to keep the row middles mowed. Applying fertilizer is very easy if you have a 3-point lift mounted spinner type fertilizer spreader.

A few final thoughts, don't plant a single Christmas tree unless you know how you can sell it! Also, you will have numerous friends and relatives who expect you to give them a tree because you have so many.
