| It's called a loss leader. The product they "lose" money on to get your butt in the store and load your cart with higher margin items. I say "lose" because they don't lose anything, the egg board or the egg farm or whoever gives marketing money to offset the price on the dozens sold. At this point I'd like to send a shout out to the beef board, my local loss leader was hamburger, and I loaded the freezers today.
