Central Iowa | I work my town job as the maintenance coordinator for an assisted living facility.
First off, PLEASE don't be one of those that does the "Dump and Go". You wouldn't believe how many grown kids do that to their elderly parents. If anyone out there that's reading this is one of those people, the kindest thing I can say is, "Shame on you!" What I really want to say can't be posted here......
If you're looking to have your parents go into one, don't hesitate to ask pointed questions. Do they have cable TV? What is the cost of the various services? Do they charge for maintenance visits? Help to the dining area? How about call pendants?
Keep in mind that most of these companies are owned by real estate or investment companies, not healthcare companies. Making money is paramount, and don't be afraid to negotiate, especially if other A.L. facilities have vacancies.
