To make drilled cotton work with your drill you will have to strip the cotton with a broadcast header. You will also want to use the ten inch spacing. The practice is called UNR (ultra narrow row). We tried some about fifteen years ago and had it custom harvested by a neighbor that was doing a few thousand acres. One or two others tried the concept here and it never really caught on for the long term. The concept was touted for dryland and marginal acres. We made pretty good yields but it did not yield any better than the wide row cotton we had. I don't remember the population.
