Columbia, MO | "Here" the wing walls are formed and poured at the same time as the basement walls. Some have the fancy forms that leave a pattern in the exposed wall. I have seen the blocks that are poured from the excess concrete used to form the wall. I also believe wood would not be a good idea unless it was properly braced against the force of the moving earth behind it. I've seen many railroad tie walls leaning over and failing due to the force of the ground behind them.
