| Western ND has 3 native deciduous trees. Cottonwood grows in wet areas and the other two that grow in badlands or pasture on north facing slopes are American elm and green ash. We don't have many trees the way it is and if we lose ash that would take care of the majority of native trees left out here. Junipers grow well, maybe too well in some cases as they seem to be spreading fairly aggressively across some pastures. All the junipers were cut about 100 years ago to use as fence posts, so areas look way different now since they have been covered with groves of junipers. | |
