Subject: RE: Ash Borers

Near-north Ontario, French River
On a large scale, no there really is nothing you can do in a practical in sense. Yeah you might be able to save a couple trees in the yard but you won't stop a bush from being decimated. Guberment experts thought they could stop the spread here in Ontario. They even cut a miles wide swath of ash trees across southern Ontario, creating a "fire break", the thinking being then borers wouldn't jump the break. We are talking a swath that was miles wide, so this wasn't a cheap endeavour. Needless to say it didn't work. If I remember right they also tried various chemical treatments, to no avail. In the end all it was was a make work project that cost millions, all the ash still died.
