NC Iowa | I think it's gonna be a larger problem then most think. In 2013, our wet year I had a beautiful, even stand of corn, field was well tiled. Looked great until August when it became way short on N. Best looking 150 bu/ac corn I've ever picked.
There are already huge yellow spots starting to show. If it's yellow now those spots won't yield worth a hoot. Sidedressed fields will be 20-40 bu/ac better IMO if this rain keeps coming. Last year our record crop had no yellow spots on the top of the hills and no drowned out spots on the bottom, not that way this year.
I'm not saying we will have a poor crop, just some fields will be OK, others that were sidedressed and have decent drainage will be amazing. I was gonna start a similar thread but thought I would be beat into the ground for killing the crop. |
