Iowa | I think you're right. Did some scouting over the weekend on my own dirt. Good farm with 200+ bu APH has N shortage in some spots -- looks great from the road, best its ever looked. Farm that rolls and is a gravel pit in spots is grass green with no N shortage to be found other than in the draws. This is NW Iowa -- we had a ton of rain in May and early june - most corn is tassel to brown silk -- so a lot of N is needed to fill it out. Of the 8 counties I cover as an agronomist, my immediate area is the best. Lots of guys are looking at this crop thinking its gonna be super good - in my area it will be average at best. One thing that was interesting was on the rolling farm a hybrid threw 20 rows around, on "good" ground same hybrid was 14-18. Agronomist I talked to the other day said every field he's been in has N shortage - and its usually in the best spots. Not saying its gonna be a train wreck -- beans on the other hand look great. | |
