Mine did the exact same thing recently....the problem was the bushings that the bolts go through get corrosion between the bushings and clutch shoes and the springs can no longer retract them....seems like they designed the clearances too tight.  I knocked out the bushings and polished them and the holes and it works fine now.

Never thought about it being a warranty item.....if you can get them to do it free that would be great.
