My opinion. The top cover bushings are worn, the roller in the trans is worn, and probably the plate as well.
Buy a new top plate and repair kit for under the cover from Hy-Cap, then buy the repair kit for the console (handles). Put it all in and be wondering why you didn't do it years ago.
