There is a small 3/16"ish spilt or roll pin in the linkage that will help. It's behind the right side battery and shield. Not a bad job putting new one in, it will make it much more crisp. I think high low has it's own which ours seem to break every few years, and reverse does as well but never messed with reverse side. If your not familiar with them might be hard to spot but it's there. A good measure is to always shift out of low to high before moving over to reverse, can cause lot of problems as that pin gets some play in it. It can be stuck in low and reverse at same time.
