There is some white stuff you can use, first you put in a cloth mesh, then paint this white goop on it and it will dry hard. My contractor still put blackjack in the gap first. Sorry I don't know what the products are, just watched them do it. I then had a hot rubber guy stop and he did the outsides of my bin. It holds air from a 10 horse fan now and had 1" gaps to start with.
