Leo LaPorte covers all things with a chip in them.

His web-site - http://techguylabs.com/ - is well organized, has categories of topics to pick and choose from.

Did you crimp on the ends of your networking cables yourself? If custom-made cables are being used, I highly encourage you to find a networking cable tester. They make looking for errors a quick-fix, plus they can point out where you may have a connection, but it could be better. I've had connectors miss-the-mark on one pin - just enough to connect, but cross-talk interference caused quality issues.

They are pricey - but rentals are available. My preference is the Fluke brand meter - http://tinyurl.com/zmg7y6d
