Dealers do seem hesitant to make their regular combine customers eat the depreciation that would make the combine sellable on the second go around, that's for sure. But that's what moves new iron, and that's the business they're in.
They are pushing pencils harder these days just like everybody else.
There ain't no way around it, old or new a combine COSTS. But a custom cutter would have to be much, much, cheaper to be worth it in my mind. You harvest and haul at a pace that fits your operation, and it can get done when you want, the way you want. Those are the main reasons you put up with your own combine.
