scil | Any hazardous material shipped by rail has a "position in train" requirement. A flammable liquid (petroleum) can not be placed
next to an ignition source (any operating internal combustion engine). Other hazardous material such has "toxic inhalation hazard"
ie. anhydrous ammonia can not be placed with in six cars of an occupied locomotive, caboose, or passenger car if train length
permits. Some materials can not be placed next to each other and must be separated by buffer cars. Buffer cars can be loaded or
empty or even other certain classes of hazardous material can be classified as buffer cars. | |
