Elmwood, Ne. Just East of Lincoln | Interesting you would mention this. I have been a volunteer EMT for about 15 years. Thursday was out at the cemetery helping my son mow a section of it. Too wet to plant so helping him is good therapy. When I got done I noticed from where I was standing, I could see the first two fatality accident victims I went to back at the starter my career. Two separate wrecks. A 13 year old boy and about a 40 year old father. I can remember every detail. You don't forget. Fortunately it doesn't haunt me. I know others that have had to give it up. It's not easy. Another thing I noticed is how many of the graves I walked by that we transported them to the hospital with medical problems and they never came home. Most were older and it was nearing there time. Some way too young. Most you knew as this is small town America. I guess it's kind of rewarding in a different kind of way to know you had a part in what happened, regardless the outcome. Thanks for the "shout out". |
