I prefer larger bales, but I did buy several hundred 4x5s (weighed in at 700 to 800 lbs) (because they are easier to find), most for 15 rest for 20.  (No rain, decent palatability beef-cow hay.)  I haul, they load.  But too early in the hay-making year to know if that will hold or change....

You are buying hay stumpage by the bale.  Sometimes here you can get it free for the taking, or 5, maybe at the most if high quality 10 per bale...
