SE IL and SW IN
That layer of white silt at about 24" is what causes our problem. It has no structure, is similar to drywall mud, both when wet and dry. It repels water and roots, due to its low Ph. My assumption is that it has settled in a layer in the connection pit above and effectively sealed it up.

My assumption that tile in this soil without a continuous no-till with an ARG cover crop to provide a constant conduit through this zone would be a waste of time and money, but there is some going in now and I would like to see a field of it done properly with some age on it.
