| I have a 28 foot hog slat chute that works pretty well, but isn't as well built as the farmer boy chute we have (http://www.farmerboyag.com/animal-handling/loading-chutes.asp).
For us we get new pigs off a 5th wheel with 2 levels and we raise the chute to get to the upper level. Semi trailers tend to be the same height, but I like being able to adjust for conditions (snow, soft ground, etc). So, I'm stuck on the moveable wood chute. The farmer boy chute has a side walk way and I believe they offer a side door as well. I've had the hog slat chute since 2003 and the farmer boy since 2007.
For loading the biggest deal is taking the tension off the winch so the chute sits on the truck and stays that way. Once it starts swinging things get interesting. Right or wrong I have a left turn on to the chute. | |
