Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251 | I bought a used H&S HDX 19 wheel hay rake last winter at a sale. It has all new wheels and is in very good condition. Of course I didn't get an owner's manual with it to know the proper way to adjust it.
Does anyone run one of these?
I tried it out for the first time last week and was not real impressed. I was raking green wet wheat mowed for haulage. It seemed like it was missing too much on each pass. It didn't matter which direction you raked either. We leveled it front to back and backed off the floation as much as it allowed, and that helped.
The next thing I want to try is adjusting it where the flotation springs attach by a chain for each wheel. Is there a easy way to bend the end of the spring back enough to unhook the chain and lengthen it by a couple links without taking it all off the rake? We tried several different pliers, vice grips, etc, and didn't have much success. The end of the spring is bent down too much to easily take a link off. I am afraid if I heat and bend them, they will lose their temper?
