Mine did something similar a few years ago. It ended up being the circuit board in the console. It had apparently gotten wet from some coffee or other liquid. I don't drink coffee so must have happened before I got it. It would shift on it's own sometimes before that. Kind of scary when I was flying down the highway and it would suddenly shift to third.
