| It is my understanding that if you want to interseed your cover crop into your cash crop and your insurance agent has concerns all you need is a letter from two experts saying that what you are doing is agronomically expectable. There has been a lot of research being done by Penn State University and there is also ARS research being done as well to support interseeding.. I do not know of anyone doing research in your area but ask your land grant who is and ask for a letter. The RMA issue with cover crops has been progressing for a while. It was not that long ago that they were going to pull coverage if you didn't terminate your cover early but now they changed. What was interesting was the support that was given to cover cropping. I am looking forward to seeing the day that crop insurance gives a premium for cover cropping. That would mean there would be a need to change the thinking to "There is a real risk to crops when not cover cropping". Let's wait and see how that develops. | |
