I tried both ways and got to where I used two if it was going to be there very long. Our terrain is pretty rough and sometimes it's easier to use two wires than to keep one at the right height. I put the bottom wire high enough the cattle could eat under to keep stuff from growing into the fence. Maybe it wasn't necessary but it helped me sleep better at night. That being said, two years ago when I lost some pasture, l drylotted cows all summer with just one poly wire between them and the corn and had no trouble.
