Here is what I ran into. When I was working for Deere when those tractors were new I had 2 8420 crack ring lands from fuel sitting on top of the pistons. When started they would knock and smoke for a couple seconds and smoothen out. Both of these were low hours under warranty yet. I ended up overhauling both of them. Not to say this is your case but this was my experience.
