How is adding calcitic lime adding H ions to the exchange complex? That's the only way I know to lower the pH. Not saying replacing that mg with ca won't hurt but it isn't adding Hydrogen.

There's not shortage of H ions in the soil solution. Most fertilizers and plant root exudates are acidic. Just need to let them stick. With this much sodium, if he can kick some of the sodium down the profile and replace it will calcium it will lower the pH.

It's not really a matter of adding H ions any way. The soil solution is H20 based. It's more a matter of pushing the equilibrium point one way or the other. You can't "use up" the H or OH ions. Water simply splits to keep the equilibrium constant.
