Subject: RE: cover crops and baling cornstalks

Northeast Nebraska
I'm going to try and look up that paper. It sounds interesting. Thanks pva. Johnny Skeptical the baling is done by a contract crew. They have a market for the bales (large feedyards in Cumming county right south of us). They sell the bales for $30/bale @ 1200lbs and they keep $15/bale to cover their cost of baling and trucking and make a little profit. This would be on a 3 year lease high cash rent ground. Can lock in $4.00+ corn 1 and 2 years out on the board through HTA contracts right now and inputs are at a bargain right now. I'm just trying to find a way to make dryland corn on corn work for 3 years while not destroying the ground with tillage. Soybeans are a loosing proposition (can't lock in a profit on the board out 2 years).
