Subject: Snow sliding off roof

Kingdom of Callaway - Fulton, Mo 65251

We added a porch on the front of our shop and after the first snow, I found out the snow stays put until we get a nice 46 degree day like today, and then it all slid off in huge chunks.  One narrowly missed a car, and I have now shoveled the front walk four times today.  I also worry about it tearing off the gutters.

I see those little plastic things they stick on roofs to hold the snow in place until it melts. I also have seen colored bars that are fastened perpendicular to the roof slope which I presume do the same thing?

Which are better and why?

Any other better ideas?
