Interesting, and what about our cold northern soils? How long after planting till the ground warms up to where the nutrients in the soil are available to the plants?
Did you do a yield check on them rows?
I think the fertilizer absorbs moisture in the soil and begins to slowly break down immediately and continues to break down all season long. From what I have seen through the years the stuff is available almost immediately. However, my ground is almost always moist for the first 30-45 days after planting. It is very rare for it to be dried out.
I did not do a weighing on the stuff like I intended to do. We had that day of high wind this fall and I didnt want to be scraping it off the ground so I took it out right ahead of it. I can tell you however though that it was not even close. And I mean not even remotely close. The rows with the starter were at least a full ten days more mature than the stuff without. |
