waterloo iowa | Back when I raised hogs the plant I sold hogs to had 3/4 of their production under contract, they broke down the week before easter, and couldn't take my hogs, the following week was good Friday and they didn't need them. When they finally took them they complained about them being big,and docked me 10$/cwt.If the packers know the meat is out there and can get by with cutting kills for a week they can reward themselves with more poundage and cheaper prices for a month.
Not being contracted can pay well in an up market but on the way down you are at the packers mercy | |
