SW Ontario | Exactly. No matter how you look at or how badly one thinks the Chinese run their economy, they are still robbing us. Significant improvements in consumer spending won't return until we start bringing real goods producing jobs back to America. Pretty tough to do with a high dollar. Due to lower commodity prices (oil) among other factors we have lowered the trade deficit somewhat but it is still 40 billion a month with no signs of slowing. A country that runs a permanent trade deficit is essentially slowly donating their wealth to others. I don't think we will see the return of the American consumer to drive our growth any time soon. Unless someone like Trump gets into office and gets serious about reversing the export of manufacturing.
