southern MN | I was looking at a bigger picture, beyond farming, I guess, in my reply.
Malaria, grasshopper, aphid, bedbug and flea issues attach humans in many parts of the world from time to time.
Certainly I can get by without DDT. I can live on my plot of land and hunt deer and pick black raspberries and I'll get by.
I see a bigger picture out there.
I don't suppose we should be spraying every acre of land with every insecticide, fungicide, and weed killer several times a year whether it needs it or not.
There is a middle ground, and some wholistic 'old fashioned' ideas can go a long way to help us. The current interest in cover crops, for example, would make dad and I presume grand dad chuckle, for that is how it used to be.
I think limiting our tool set so as to not have any options is as short sited and bad as indiscriminately using everything as much as possible.
I see some middle ground, and I see a need.
Thanks for the discussion.
