Subject: RE: Early interseeded cover crops?

North Central Illinois
I did a small experiment in corn this summer. I hand broadcast a couple strips of forage rape in corn mid August. Where the corn was only 6' tall due to early season flooding, the rape was 6" tall at harvest. Where the corn was 8' +, there was minimal establishment. I will be trying again next summer with a different planting date, as the rape offers a chance to boost the grazing value of the stalks after harvest.
