Usually you can do around 20 starts a day with a tile plow. If it takes you an extra one or two minutes per start with the longer start hole, that would take you 20 to 40 minutes more per day easy. The longer length would also be easier to get off grade.

As far as grade control, I think the Soil-Max Gold Digger is the only one with actual unbiased grade control data (OSU) in their literature. There is much more to grade control than just length of boot to consider. You have the the distance from the pivot point to the back of the boot, the shorter the better for less deflection. You also have the length of the grade cylinders, a shorter cylinder will need less oil to keep up with the plow.
The laser grade control also has a huge impact on how the plow performs. The grade control system consists of the type of valve you use and charateristics of how the valve reacts to the laser input.

I would be much more concerned about how the plow pulled and how it supported the tile at the bottom of the trench.
